Many ambitious people make an unspoken trade: live fully later, after the next milestone. The trouble is that builders are especially good at producing another milestone. The finish line keeps moving because creating is part of who we are.
That does not make ambition the enemy. It means the life around the work needs its own place on the calendar. Open the bottle. Take the trip. Call the person. Start the thing that has no clean business case but makes the years feel inhabited.
A meaningful life is not a reward issued when every obligation is complete. It is built in parallel, while the company is imperfect and the future remains uncertain.
